This fundraiser for the American Cancer society is important to me for a variety of reasons.
First off, I have at least five friends I know well who are currently fighting this insidious and deadly disease.
There is so much still to do in the fight to cure cancer, and the more funds that are raised, the more research that can be funded.
I have lost loved ones to this tragic disease, including a husband, and several family members. The heartbreak of losing someone you love to this disease after watching them deteriorate right before your eyes, as they struggle to fight the brave battle to regain their health and beat it is heartbreaking, and unforgettable. It leaves a hole in families and a wound that is hard to heal.
I am also doing this, because I, myself, am a cancer survivor. I was one of the lucky ones, so far. Mine was caught early, and a quick and thorough surgery cleared away all of it, thankfully.
Of course, no one is cured till they are cancer free for 5 years. I have year #4 almost behind me, and in Apri 2025, with God's will, will note that 5 year mark and can be declared cured!
Again, the treatment I received, even the initial diagnosis was made possible by advances in technology and early diagnosis techniques. Some of the afflicted are currently not as lucky as I was and are fighting for their lives every day.
For those people, my lost loved ones, my late husband, and my own gratitude, I am participating in Dry February.
I hope you will support my efforts by making a donation, in honor or in memory of a loved one, or because this a worthwhile cause to promote a cure to this tragic disease, so that someday, no one has to face this disease, and no more families need to lose loved ones to it.
Thank you in advance for your support!
